Valakkai Dry Masala

Ingredients:

  • 3 Green Plantain of medium size
  • 3 – 4 teaspoon Oil
  • 1/2 teaspoon coriander leaves
  • 1 Onion of medium size
  • 3/4 teaspoon Garlic Paste
  • 1/4 teaspoon Garam Masala
  • 1 teaspoon Sāmbhar Powder
  • 1/2 cup Cooked Toor Dal
  • 3/4 teaspoon Salt as required
  • 3 teaspoon water

Method:

  1. Peel and cut 1/2 inch cubes of Green Plantain
  2. Ground the onions finely
  3. Keep a wok on flame, add oil to heat.
  4. Add onions that are grounded and stir for 1 minute.
  5. Add salt 3/4 teaspoon or to taste.
  6. Add chopped Green Plantain and stir for 3 to 4 minutes. This step is not done until a sample Green Plantain mashes when pressed.
  7. Add Garlic paste and stir for 1/2 minute. Garlic should give good aroma.
  8. Now add Sāmbhar powder and stir for 2 seconds
  9. Add Cooked Dal and Water. Mix well and check for spice. Add Sāmbhar powder to increase spice as desired.
  10. Add salt to taste
  11. After 2 to 3 minutes add Garam Masala. Stir for 1 to 2 seconds
  12. Transfer it to a serving dish and garnish with coriander leaves
  13. This side dish goes well with Rice or Chapatis or Pulka
